ではないでしょうか？「近代神学の父」と呼ばれるフリードリヒ・シュライアマハー
が、「神という理念」はどこから生まれ、「真に宗教的な人」とはどのような人かを

Now is the time even entitled “After Corona,” which is asking for the transformation of
our past values. Many people might feel pulled toward a belief in something beyond
intellect. Friedrich Schleiermacher, who is called “Father of Modern Liberal Theology,”
gives us commentaries on where “the idea of God” comes from and what kind of person
“the truly religious one” is――more to come both in English and in Japanese (I hope you
will understand that there are some differences between the English version and the
Japanese one because the Japanese one is translated from the first German edition).
In religion the universe is intuited; it is posited as originally acting on us. Now if your
imagination clings to the consciousness of our freedom in such fashion that it cannot
come to terms with what it construes as originally active other than in the form of a free
being, then imagination will probably personify the spirit of the universe and you will
have a God.
宗教において宇宙が直観され、宇宙は人間に根源的に働きかけるものとしての位置を
得るのです。さてみなさんの構想力がみなさんの自由の意識に依存しているために、
みなさんの構想力が根源的な働きをしているものを、ひとつの自由な本質の形式として
考えることができないということが生じているとすれば、それはみなさんの構想力が、
宇宙の精神を人格化したためであり、その結果みなさんは神を持つようになるのです。
If your imagination clings to understanding in such fashion that you always clearly see
that freedom only has meaning in the particular and for the particular instance, then you
will have a world and no God.
またみなさんの構想力が悟性に依存していて、自由がただ個々人において、また個々人
のために意味をもっているに過ぎないということが常に明らかであるとすれば、
みなさんは世界は持っても、神は持たないということになるでしょう。
You will not consider it blasphemy, I hope, that belief in God depends on the direction of
the imagination. You will know that imagination is the highest and most original element
in us, and that everything besides it is merely reflection upon it, you will know that it is
our imagination that creates the world for you and that you can have no God without the
world.
私がみなさんにお願いしたいことは、神への信仰は構想力の方向に依存しているという
事実を冒涜的なことだと受け止めないでいただきたいということです。みなさんご存じ
の通り、構想力というのは人間にとっては、最高のものであり、もっとも根源的なもの
なのであり、それ以外の全てのものは、ただ構想力の反省に過ぎないのです。みなさん
ご存じの通り、みなさんのために世界を創造するということは、みなさんの構想力なの
であり、世界なしにはみなさんが神を持つということもないのです。
Moreover, God will not thereby become less certain to anyone, nor will individuals be
better able to emancipate themselves from the nearly immutable necessity of accepting
a deity because of knowing whence this necessity comes.
もちろんそのことの故に、神が人々にとって不確かなものになるというは
ありませんし、人々が神を求める決定的に不変の必然性がどこから生まれているのかを
私たちは知っているのですから、ますますこの必然性から逃れることはできなくなるの
です。
In religion, therefore, the idea of God does not rank as high as you think. Among truly
religious persons there have never been zealots, enthusiasts, or fanatics for the existence
of God; with great equanimity they were aware of what one calls atheism alongside
themselves, for there has always been something that seemed to them more irreligious
than this.
まさに宗教においては、神の理念は、みなさんが考えているよりも高いものではなく、真に宗教的な人の中には、神の存在についての熱狂主義者、熱心主義者、狂信主義者などというものは存在しなかったのです。真の宗教的人間というのは、ひとが無神論と呼ぶものも大いなる冷静さをもって傍観することができたのですし、実はそれ以上に非宗教的であると思われるものがいつでも存在していることも受け入れていたのです。
Even God cannot be imagined in religion except as active, and no one has ever denied
the divine life and activity of the universe; religion has nothing to do with the existing
and commanding God just as its God is of no use to the physicist or moralist whose sad
misunderstandings these are and always will be.
宗教においては神も行動するものとして現れ出るのです。そして宇宙の神的生命と行動
とは誰もこれを否定しませんし、存在し、命令する神などは宗教と何の関係もない
ということは、宗教にとっての神が、物理学者や道徳家には敬虔の対象ではないのと
同じであり、彼らにとってそれが敬虔の対象であると考えること自体が彼らの誤解
なのであり、それはいつでも大きな過ちなのです。
But this acting God of religion cannot guarantee our happiness; a free being cannot wish
to affect another free being except by making itself known to the other, regardless of
whether through pain or pleasure.
宗教の行動する神は、私たちの幸福を保証することはできないのです。なぜなら自由な
本質がもうひとりの自由な本質に働きかけようとする場合、それが苦痛なことであれ、
喜びであれ、それは相互に同じことなのだということを認識してもらうように
働きかけるしか方法はないからです。
He also cannot incite us to ethical life, for he is not considered other than as acting, and
there can neither be any action upon our ethical life, nor can we conceive of any.
また神は私たちに刺激を与えて道徳に向かわせることもできないのです。なぜなら、
神は働きとして考えるより他ないものなのですが、その神が私たちの道徳に働きかける
と考えることはできないですし、元来道徳に働きかける行為などは考えることが
できないのです。
