お風呂に入る
生ずることも滅することもなく
時と空間を超え
すばらしきダルマダートゥの懐 (ふところ) の中で
手渡され受け継がれる私の体
Whenever we take a bath or a shower, we can look at our body and see that it is
a gift from our parents and their parents. Many of us in the West do not want
to have much to do with our parents. They may have hurt us so much. But when
we look deeply, we discover that it is impossible to drop all identity with them.
お風呂に入ったりシャワーを浴びたりするときには、自分の体を見つめて、それが両親
と、さらにその両親からの贈り物であることを確認しましょう。西洋社会に暮らす人の
多くは、自分の親と深く関わろうとしません。深く傷つけられた過去があるかも
しれません。しかし、深く見つめてみれば、親とのつながりを完全に断つことなど
不可能だとわかります。
As we wash each part of our body, we can meditate on the nature of the body and
the nature of consciousness, asking ourselves, “To whom does this body belong?
Who has transmitted this body to me? What has been transmitted?”
自分の体のあちこちを洗いながら、体とは、意識の本性とは一体何だろう? と深く洞察
し、問いかけてみてください。「この体は誰のものなのか? 誰がこの体をくれたのか?
受け取ったものは何だろう?」と。
If we meditate in this way, we will discover that there are three components:
the transmitter, that which is transmitted, and the one who receives the transmission.
The transmitter is our parents. We are the continuation of our parents and their
ancestors. The object of transmission is our body itself, and the one who receives
the transmission is us.
こうして洞察を進めていくと、三つの構成要素が存在することがわかってきます。渡す
人、渡されるもの、受け取る人です。渡す人とは、両親です。私たちは両親や先祖から
の継続です。渡されるものはこの体であり、受け取る人は私たちになります。
As we continue to meditate on this, we see clearly that the transmitted, the object
transmitted, and the receiver are one. All three are present in our body. When
we are deeply in touch with the present moment, we can see that all our ancestors
and all future generations are present in us. Seeing this, we will know what to do
and what not to do――for ourselves, our ancestors, our children, and their children.
さらに洞察を深めていけば、渡す人、渡されるもの、受け取る人が一体であると、
はっきりわかるでしょう。その三者のすべてが、この体の中に存在します。今この瞬間
に深く触れると、あらゆる先祖や未来の子孫の全員が自分の中にいることが見えてくる
のです。それがわかれば、自分に、先祖に、子どもたちやその子孫たちに対して、
すべきことと、すべきでないことがわかってきます。
The Dharmadhatu is all that is manifested from the Dharmakaya, having Dharmakaya
as its essence, just as all waves are manifestation of water. The Dharmadhatu is neither
born nor destroyed. It has no previous existence and no future existence. Its existence
is beyond time and space.
ダルマダートゥとは、水から波が生まれるように、ダルマカーヤを基盤にあらわれて
くるすべてのものを指します。ダルマダートゥは生ずることも滅することも
ありません。それには前世も来世もありません。時空を超えた存在なのです。
When we understand this truth of existence with our whole being, we will begin to
transcend the fear of death, and we will not be disturbed by unnecessary
discriminations.
この存在の真理が腹の底から理解できたとき、死の怖れを超越し、私たちは不要な
分離意識に悩まされることはなくなるでしょう。
※Dharmakaya
The Truth Body, one aspect of the “three bodies of the Buddha,” which functions
as the ground for the other two aspects, namely the Enjoyment Body and the
Emanation Body. In the Mahayana it is considered to be synonymous with perfect
enlightenment, primordially existent, transcending all perceptual forms and hence
not possible to perceive. Among its qualities are freedom from all conceptualization,
liberation from all defilements, and the intrinsic ability to perform all activities.

※ダルマカーヤ(=法身・ほっしん)
ブッダの三様の身体の一つで、真理の身体、他の二つの身体、すなわち報身と応化身の
基盤としてはたらく。大乗仏教においては、法身は完全なる悟り (正覚) にほかならない
と考えられた。それは根源的存在であり、認識可能なあり方を超越しているため、
それを認識することはできないとされる。さらに、概念化作用から離れており、煩悩
から解放されており、あらゆる活動を起こすことができる本来的な能力を有する
といった特性を有する。
